BT adds 63 local exchanges to its fibre optic network

New additions take the total of local fibre optic exchanges to 161

BT has added a further 63 local branch exchanges to its fibre optic network
and will complete rollout to 40 per cent of the country by 2012.

This is the fourth phase of the networks rollout, and areas covered include
Albert Dock in London, Didcot in the South West and Blunsdon in Wiltshire.

Fibre optic broadband is now available at 161 exchanges. The rollout, dubbed
21CN, will provide users with speeds of up to 100Mbit/s.

BT's wholesale agreement says that its partners will benefit from the
infrastructure, and can provide "superfast" broadband under their own brand.
