IT jobs market "bouncing back"

Dave Bailey, Computing, Tuesday 27 April 2010 at 12:03:00

Recruitment site experiences strong resurgence in demand for permanent staff

Figures from IT recruitment specialist web site
IT
Job Board
show a 16 per cent jump in vacancies quarter-on-quarter for Q1
2010.

Contract positions have also seen a big rise, up 54 per cent from the start
of the year to the end of March.

IT Job Board managing director Alex Farrell said, "We've seen a rapid rise in
the number of positions being advertised in the first quarter of 2010, a real
sign that the market is bouncing back.?

There are currently more than 21,000 jobs on IT Job Board's web site, with IT
manager and IT support roles representing the biggest proportion of jobs.

The roles experiencing the biggest demand continue to be IT managers, IT
support, project managers, SQL and software engineers, with the pattern across
all skills areas heavily slanted towards permanent positions.

IT security jobs postings rose 67 per cent quarter on quarter, and .NET
positions increased 51 per cent, indicating healthy growth in non-core areas,
Farrell said.
