UK Digital Champion's remit remains largely the same

Prime Minister David Cameron has reappointed Martha Lane Fox to the post of
UK Digital Champion - she was first appointed last year by Gordon Brown.

Downing Street said: "Her remit is to encourage as many people as possible to
use the web and improve the convenience and efficiency of public services by
driving online delivery."

The lastminute.com founder will work specifically on initiatives such as the
Race Online 2012 campaign and the transformation of Directgov, the government?s
portal for online public services.

Cameron said: "Using the web can help people save money, find a job, access
services in a way that works for them, and make connections with each other and
their community.

"It will also help us all to drive down the cost of delivering public
services.?

Fox said there were ?compelling economic reasons? for increasing online usage
and it was her ?mission? to get as many of the 10 million adults who have not
used the internet to do so.

She will also sit on the Efficiency Board, co-chaired by Cabinet Office
minister Francis Maude, and chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander.
The Board oversees the Government?s Efficiency and Reform programme.
